Inter Milan Owners Oaktree Capital Aim For Record For Foreign Serie A Owners – Beating Man City, Chelsea & PSG

Date:

Oaktree Capital are aiming to become the first foreign owners of a team in a top five European league to win a league title straightaway at Inter Milan.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Oaktree took over Inter from Suning in May of this year.

That takeover followed a failure by the previous owners to pay their sizable debt to the US fund.

And the fact that it is yet another non-Italian owner for Inter is not particularly surprising.

More and more at the highest level in football, the trend is towards foreign ownership of football clubs.

The level of financialization and globalization of the game has led to this being the case.

Inter’s prior two owners had also been from outside of the Italy. And their city rivals AC Milan have US owners currently, in the form of Gerry Cardinale and RedBird Capital.

Oaktree Aiming For Top Five European League Record At Inter Milan

In other leagues, as well, foreign owners for clubs have become much more common in the last couple decades.

French juggernauts Paris Saint-Germain, for example, have Qatari ownership.

And Manchester City are owned by a group from the United Arab Emirates.

Chelsea, meanwhile, currently have American owners like Inter and Milan. This follows nearly two decades under the ownership of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

One thing that all of these clubs can say is that they all enjoyed success since the takeover by foreign ownership.

City and Chelsea have won Premier League titles, whilst PSG are Ligue 1’s dominant force.

But in none of these cases has a foreign owner won a league title in a top-five European top flight in their very first season in charge of a club.

It has always taken at least a year or two to get a project underway and win.

But Oaktree have inherited an Inter team that is already well-set-up.

In the summer, the new Nerazzurri owners made the decision not to do anything too drastic to tamper with the team.

Therefore, the US fund could win a Serie A title in their very first season in charge of Inter.
