Kernel girls tennis continues strong dual season with sweep of Roosevelt

Sep. 10—SIOUX FALLS — It was a clean sweep on Monday for the Mitchell High School girls tennis team, winning 9-0 in a dual at Sioux Falls Roosevelt at Kuehn Park.

The win improves Mitchell to 13-1 in duals this season, with a combined record of 109-17 in individual matches at duals so far this year. Mitchell won every match in straight sets on Monday, the Kernels’ ninth 9-0 win of the season.

In doubles play, Megan Mastel and Carsyn Weich yielded only one game in their 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while Elly Clement and Matteah Graves won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. Katie Morgan and Mia Larson had little issue with their No. 3 doubles contest, winning 6-0, 6-3.

Clement was a 6-0, 6-0 winner in No. 4 singles, while Weich allowed one game to her opponent in a 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Mia Larson was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 6 singles. Megan Mastel won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Graves won 6-2, 6-1 in her match at No. 5 singles.

Next up, Mitchell will host Sioux Falls Washington in a dual matchup at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12 at Hitchcock Park.
