Fiorentina New Boy Looks Back On Inter Milan Spell: ‘It Helped Me, Playing At San Siro Was A Privilege’

Wingback Robin Gosens feels that his time at Inter Milan helped him, even if it did not live up to expectations.

The 30-year-old spoke about his experience with the Nerazzurri as well as Atalanta in a press conference being unveiled as a Fiorentina player, as reported by FCInterNews.

This summer, Gosens joined Fiorentina.

La Viola are the German’s third club in Serie A.

Prior to his experience in Tuscany, Gosens had also played for the likes of Atalanta and Inter.

And it was at Atalanta where Gosens really established his reputation within Italian football.

The German proved to be an extremely effective wingback option for La Dea. He suited Gian Piero Gasperini’s system and the demands for Atalanta wingbacks to the ground.

Gosens’s form at Atalanta attracted plenty of transfer interest.

And in the end it was Inter who completed a deal to sign the German.

The Nerazzurri brought Gosens in during the January transfer window in 2022.

Robin Gosens: “Inter Experience Helped Me, Playing In San Siro A Privilege”

There were certainly big expectations for Gosens at Inter.

The German was the player most expected to be the long-term replacement for Federico Dimarco on the Nerazzurri’s left flank.

But already when Gosens arrived at Inter, he was recovering from injury.

And physical problems plus an apparent lack of his previous explosiveness meant that Gosens did not really play his best football in a Nerazzurri shirt.

Then, there was also the emergence of Federico Dimarco.

It was Dimarco who ended up becoming Inter’s first-choice left-wingback. The Italian has cemented himself as just about the first name on the teamsheet for the Nerazzurri over the pat couple seasons.

Therefore, it was not a huge surprise to see Gosens depart Inter for Union Berlin last summer. His time at the San Siro lasted just a season and a half.

Gosens remarked that “The best parts of my career have been in Italy.”

“Atalanta made me into a top player,” he said.

The German continued that “I had the privilege of playing at Inter and winning trophy.”

“And then I want to bring that winning mentality here,” said the new Fiorentina signing.
