Piper’s sterling round leads SHS golf to jamboree win

OTSEGO — The Sturgis golf team is putting it together rather quickly.

On Wednesday, the Lady Trojans traveled to Shamrock Hills Golf Course to play in a Wolverine Conference jamboree hosted by Otsego. There, Sturgis won its second consecutive jamboree by shooting a team score of 175.

The Lady Trojans tied with Paw Paw’s 175 as a team, but won the tiebreaker. Piper Sterling recorded an impressive round on the day by shooting a 40, that tied her for individual medalist honors with Emilia Schaelkle of Otsego.

Madison Webb carded a round of 42 and Mia Martinez shot 43 for Sturgis.

Otsego finished third as a team with a score of 176. Plainwell shot 184, Vicksburg was fifth at 206 and Three Rivers came in sixth with 214. Edwardsburg shot 217.

Sturgis also got a pair of 50 rounds from Ximena Medina and Mazie Sterling, Gabby Netke shot 53.

Three Rivers had a pair of 51s shot on Wednesday. They came from Maggie Gose and Elizabeth Oestrike.

Cassandra Gillette carded a round of 52 and Ashton Ware shot 60. The Cats also got a 65 from Delaney Harper and a 67 from Isabella Williamson. Gose, Gillette and Williamson carded personal best scores.
