Los Angeles: The latest addresses adored by the fashion world

In Los Angeles, knowing the latest fashionable address is part of the art de vivre. Between institutions and new locations, which are the places that get fashion and creative people talking?

Los Angeles may not yet have a Michelin three-star restaurant, but over the years the city has become a benchmark in terms of cuisine. Although the price of a dinner now exceeds $100, it is generally well worth the effort. In addition to the classic Cipriani in Beverly Hills, Horses in West Hollywood, a favorite of Beyoncé’s, and the indestructible Gjelina in Venice, this autumn you’ll want to check out The Benjamin Hollywood, the new restaurant and bar opened by Jared Meisler, founder of The Roger Room artist bar, next door to Largo at the Coronet in Hollywood. 
 
Homage to classic restaurant hangouts, the restaurant was co-opened with Ben Shenassafar, founder of streetwear brand and media platform The Hundreds with Bobby Kim in the early 2000s. A real phenomenon in the golden age of streetwear in Los Angeles, the brand subsequently disappeared. Involved in the food industry with the creation of the Family Style Fest, a food festival, Shenassafar has teamed up with Jared Meisler to open a restaurant with superb Art Deco architecture, featuring wagyu beef, roasted chicken, branzino and carrot cake. 

Above The Benjamin Hollywood, The Moon Room bar has also just opened. With different partners, Jared Meisler has imagined a bar and discotheque filled with photographs, paintings and drawings, and featuring a disco ball. The Moon Room hosts a wide range of events, from album releases to concerts and DJ sets, and attracts some of Los Angeles’s finest nightlife. 

Regulars at the Château Marmont should also keep an eye out for news from the Kiosk-o-thèque founded by
‘Are We on Air’ podcaster Arman Naféei. The former newsstand transformed into a gallery, podcast venue and boutique, and located just across the street from the Château Marmont, regularly organizes events attracting the fauna of artists and hype people. Past events have included the signing of the artist Nadia Lee Cohen book and the presentation of the collaboration with Searchlight Pictures on the film ‘Kinds of Kindness’ and the release of exclusive promo pieces. 
 
Other places of interest in Los Angeles these days: art galleries are enjoying a recent surge in popularity. Among the latest to open, German Michael Werner’s Beverly Hills gallery has been attracting art and fashion enthusiasts alike since early September. Architects Johnston Marklee transformed a Beverly Hills brick storefront into a shared space for the gallery and the avant-garde fashion boutique Mameg. 
 
Another gallery not to be missed is the contemporary art gallery Château Shatto, which has just moved into the Melrose Hill district, traditionally associated with furniture warehouses and now conquered by artists. In the same area, you should stop by David Zwirner’s, Clearing, Morán Morán and Shrine galleries and take time to visit the Southern Guild gallery, founded by Trevyn and Julian McGowan, which represents contemporary artists from Africa and diaspora. 

Located  right next to Southern Guild gallery, Etra has become a popular spot for and and fashion enthusiasts. The restaurant has received a great attention since it opened. Artist John Zabawa has designed the dimly lit, wood-panelled decor, adorned with paintings. Italian pasta dishes range from spaghetti pomodoro to ricotta pasta, and the salads are all divine.
 
A major trend, wine bars became the new headquarters for Los Angeles creatives. Inspiration and memories of Europe can be found at Café Triste in Chinatown, the wine bar next door to Eckhaus Latta’s fashion store and studio. Another spot frequented by artists and film buffs, Bar Sinizki’s decor is reminiscent of Eastern Europe, with Pierogi ravioli and a delicious ham-and-butter sandwich on the plate. On the East Side, Barr Seco is the new address to know. A bar designed by architect Lena Kohl, featuring works by Californian artists and Mexican ceramics, where you can enjoy a glass of natural wine. Finally, the arty Melrose Hill neighborhood has been missing a wine bar, and in a few days it will be, with the opening of Bar Etoile. 
 
On the exhibition front, if you’ve never been to the Petersen Automotive Museum, now’s the time. Until March 2025, the Miracle Mile museum dedicated to the automobile is presenting the ‘Best in Low’ exhibition. This has been a feature of American urban culture since the 1950s, turning old cars – usually Chevrolets Impala – into works of art. Originally linked to Chicano culture, the movement was taken up by West Coast hip-hop and rap singers.

The highly-anticipated Los Angeles exhibition dedicated to fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg will open on October 17 at the Skirball Cultural Center. This exhibition coincides with the 50th anniversary of Diane Von Furstenberg’s iconic wrap dress and includes a selection of over sixty garments drawn from the DVF archives along with artwork, ephemera, fabric swatches, media pieces and information on her philanthropic work. 
 
Until the end of September, The Broad is the place to be for an excellent exhibition devoted to artist Mickalene Thomas. Her collection of paintings, collages and photography examines black female representation through portraiture. LACMA also features the work of Ed Ruscha and his interpretations of American consumer society. Finally, a look at the spatial structure of the future Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, imagined by Stars Wars director George Lucas, will provide fodder for a few dinner conversations.

Last but not least, the fashion world may stop in Los Angeles from November 14 to 16 for the new edition of the Los Angeles Fashion Week; an event that grows in popularity each year.
