Real Madrid reach a renewal agreement with €25m goalkeeper

Real Madrid had a rather busy summer transfer window. The Merengues at last landed one of their key targets of the last few years, Kylian Mbappe, and also incorporated Endrick into their squad. Los Blancos also worked to get the French defender Leny Yoro signed but ultimately failed in this operation as the youngster joined Manchester United.

Now, with the transfer window closed, Real Madrid have their attention focused on the official competitions. However, they are still working to ensure they are able to retain their important players for the years to come.

In this regard, there is some good news for them as MARCA reports that the Merengues have already reached an agreement with Andriy Lunin to renew the goalkeeper’s contract for the next four years, i.e., till June 2028. This renewal will be officially announced within this week.

This operation had lingered on for some time and there were some doubts and concerns arising about Lunin’s future at the club. His current contract expires next year, and the goalkeeper had even opened the door to a possible departure in a recent interview.

The Ukrainian had put on hold the renewal offer because he was concerned about the minutes he would get to play with Courtois’ return. But this issue was resolved as his agent, Jorge Mendes, conveyed his concerns to the Real Madrid CEO, Jose Angel Sanchez. After much thought, Lunin ultimately decided to accept this renewal and take on the challenge of competing with the Belgian.

This renewal will definitely be good news for Real Madrid fans, as they can now rest assured that their goal will be in reliable hands even if Courtois is unavailable for some reason. Last season, Lunin showed what he is capable of as he played a key role in the Merengues’ successful La Liga and UCL campaigns.
