Ex-Milan director reveals why he doubts Paulo Fonseca

Ex-Milan managing director Zvonimir Boban voiced his doubts over Paulo Fonseca’s tactics since being appointed head coach of the club.

Speaking in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Zvonimir Boban expressed concerns after watching Milan’s matches under new manager Paulo Fonseca. While he put his faith in the Portuguese coach, Boban elaborated on tactical deployment problems. He said: “I really respect the work done by Fonseca at Shakhtar, at Lille and at his start in Rome. He has just arrived in Milan and we need to give him time, but what worries me is that he still doesn’t have the certainty that this team can and must play only with 4-3-3, with Bennacer, when he returns, in front of the defence and not on the bench. So the mezzali can provide balance and help to the super offensive wingers like Leao and Pulisic.”

Boban highlighted the uncertainty in Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s role at the club as the former Swedish international does not have any specified responsibilities. He remarked: “Ibra is a genius and I will thank him forever because for the love of Milan, he agreed to return changing the recent history of the Rossoneri and all of us. Having said that, now I don’t understand what he does, what his responsibilities and his skills are to be able to judge him. I hope he understood them because in the end, he will be the one judged, not Moncada.”
