Lamine Yamal was linked to Paris Saint-Germain this past summer transfer window. A report from Mundo Deportivo revealed that PSG had been prepared to break the bank to sign Yamal, whom they had identified as Mbappé’s successor.
Moreover, the club was reportedly willing to surpass its record fee of €222 million, offering up to €250 million for the transfer. However, nothing serious ever transpired, but the Parisians love the player, and for now, it seems they’ll be admiring him from afar rather than up close.
PSG sporting advisor Luis Campos took part in the Thinking Football Summit held in Portugal and was asked about his club’s recent transfer window, primarily about the rumors linking the Ligue 1 side to Yamal.
“If all the players who have appeared in the press linked to PSG were here, we would have five stars in each position,” Campos said (h/t Le10Sport). “Of course, I like Lamine Yamal, but also [Ousmane] Dembelé, Kang-in Lee, [Marco] Asensio… Fantastic players of enormous quality.
“To say that Yamal is not a great player would be a huge mistake on my part, he is an excellent footballer and I am very happy to see him playing at his level. But PSG are very happy with the players they have in these positions.”
Spanish journalist Pedro Morales reported over the summer that, according to sporting advisor, PSG’s top decision-maker had been willing to invest significantly to secure the Spanish youngster and build the project around him.
“How much is Lamine Yamal worth? I can assure you that if the money belonged to Luis Campos (PSG sporting director), he would pay €200 million to sign him immediately,” Morata said.
