“Keep us pushing” – Erling Haaland reacts to winning season’s first Premier League Player of the Month award

Erling Haaland has credited the full Manchester City operation after claiming the opening Premier League Player of the Month award of the 2024/25 season.

The Norway international striker has began the new season in stellar form, recording a staggering seven goals in his opening three Premier League matches with Manchester City, including two hat-tricks in the process.

Haaland opened the scoring for Manchester City on the opening weekend of the season, putting his side ahead at Stamford Bridge in what would turn out to be a 0-2 win for the club over Chelsea thanks to a Mateo Kovacic goal.

The 24-year-old then recorded a treble of strikes in a 4-1 home win over Ipswich Town, before rounding off the first portion of club action before the international break with another hat-trick in a 1-3 away win against West Ham at the London Stadium.

That outstanding run of form has now been recognised by the Premier League’s individual awards, after Erling Haaland fended off competition from a number of fellow top-flight stars to claim the first Player of the Month award of the season, winning August’s prize.

Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Arsenal’s David Raya and Bukayo Saka, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Danny Welbeck were also nominated for the award.

Speaking to Manchester City’s official club website after winning the award, Erling Haaland said, “I am delighted to have won this award so early in the season and would like to thank everyone who voted for me.

“I am also very grateful to my team-mates, the coaches and staff for helping to make it happen. August was a brilliant month for the team, and I am proud to have played an important part in that.”

The Norwegian forward continued, “To have scored seven goals last month in three matches is great, but I will continue to work hard and improve my game.

“We have given ourselves a great foundation to build on now going into a busy period with the Champions League and Carabao Cup starting.

“I hope I can continue to help the team get the wins and keep us pushing in all the competitions.”

Erling Haaland and Manchester City will now resume their duties at club level by taking on Brentford at the Etihad Stadium in Premier League action on Saturday afternoon, hoping to maintain their 100 per cent winning start to the campaign.
