Burnley defender Maxime Esteve has penned a new five-year deal.

It becomes the third contract renewal in a week at Turf Moor following the extensions of Josh Cullen and Luca Koleosho.

“I’m very happy, very proud and this Club is very special and important to me,” the 22-year-old told the official club website.

“The welcome since coming here has been amazing. Everyone in the dressing room, staff, fans are so special to me.”

Esteve, a recent France U21 international, initially joined Burnley in January on loan from Ligue 1 side Montpellier and moved permanently in the summer.

He has made 20 appearances for the Clarets and started all four of Burnley’s Championship matches this season as they look to return to the Premier League.

“I felt at home very quickly, my wife and family are happy, so to sign this contract is very good,” Esteve said.

Scott Parker’s side are currently sixth in the Championship after four games with seven points.

They return to action this weekend, following the international break, with an away visit to unbeaten promotion rivals Leeds United.
