Mitchell girls tennis sweeps Sioux Falls Washington in home dual

Sep. 13—MITCHELL — The Mitchell High School girls tennis team continued its strong season on Thursday.

The Kernels picked up their eighth sweep of the season as they defeated Sioux Falls Washington 9-0 in their dual at Hitchcock Park, dropping only a combined 16 games between both singles and doubles competitions.

In double competition, Megan Mastel and Carsyn Weich defeated Madelyn Dahlmeier and Elizabeth Morgans 6-1, 6-0 in Flight 1. Elly Clement and Matteah Graves took down Zoriah VanDeVendel and Allyson Corp at No. 2 doubles 6-0, 6-0, and Katie Morgan and Mia Larson were victorious at No. 3 doubles, defeating Alivia Dahlmeier and Corinne Cahill 6-0, 6-0.

In singles, Graves was the only Kernel not to drop a game, sweeping Dahlmeier at No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-0. Clement edged out Corp in the first set in Flight 4 en route to a 7-5, 6-0 win, and Morgan dispatched VanDeVendel at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0.

Mitchell (14-1) heads on the road for its final triangular of the season, taking on both Sioux Falls Lincoln and Yankton on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Sioux Falls Lincoln.
