Rain heads back to Northern California after a record-hot summer

Date:

(FOX40.COM) — Saturday may have presented clear skies and sunshine but weather is forecast to look a little different in the coming days as rain makes its way through Northern California.

“A weather system is expected to arrive late tomorrow into early Monday morning and bring isolated thunderstorms and showers, mainly for the northern Sac Valley, Foothills, and the mountains,” the National Weather Service Sacramento said on Saturday.

There is also 15-25% probability of thunderstorms, according to NWS. Areas affected include the Sacramento Valley, foothills, and mountains. NWS said to also be on the lookout for lightning, gusty winds, small hail, and brief heavy rainfall.

The upcoming storms are symbolic of the rise of the fall season and putting triple-digit weather in the rearview mirror. According to FOX40’s chief meteorologist Adam Epstein, 100-degree days usually end by Sept. 3. The last time weather reached over 100 degrees beyond September was over 20 years ago, in October 2001.

“From what I’m seeing, we’re going to stay cool or near normal for the next two weeks,” Epstein said. “It’s not a guarantee – things get a little more obscure and foggy the further out you look, but based on what I’m seeing, the odds are in our favor.”
