Somerset County campfire death: What police are saying about the fatal blaze

Date:

JEFFERSON TWP. — An Allegheny County man was killed last week after falling into a campfire at Pioneer Lakes RV Park, formerly Pioneer Park Campground, 273 Trent Road, in Somerset County.

Somerset County Coroner Cullen Swank declared 62-year-old James Young of the Wexford area dead at the scene at 10:30 p.m. Friday.

An autopsy was performed, but Young’s cause of death is “pending some test results” that could take six to eight weeks,” Cullen said in a telephone interview Monday.

State police are investigating.

“We don’t have any reason at the moment to think there is anything suspicious surrounding our investigation that is still ongoing,” according to state police public information officer Stephen Limani in an email Tuesday.
