Girls tennis roundup: Litchfield Dragons’ singles stand tall against Annandale Cardinals

Sep. 17—LITCHFIELD — The Litchfield Dragons girls tennis team was unscathed in singles play on Tuesday.

The fourth-ranked (Class A) Dragons cruised to a 6-1 victory on Tuesday against Annandale.

At No. 2 singles, Litchfield senior Maya Wuotila overcame a first-set loss to beat the Cardinals’ Ella Rassier in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6.

Sophomore Isla Dille, who is ranked sixth individually in Class A, beat Avery Gagnon 6-0, 6-1 to claim No. 1 singles. Emma Wuotila and Marcella Bruning claimed victory in Nos. 3 and 4 singles.

Emma Knudsen and Molly Patten notched a win at No. 1 doubles for the Dragons. The pair beat Felicity Fischer and Claire Lampi, 6-1, 6-2. The No. 3 doubles team of Elly Woelfel and Emily Michels beat Lindsay Boyd and Julia Crowell, 6-0, 6-4.

Litchfield plays Glencoe-Silver Lake at 4 p.m. Thursday at Glencoe.

Third-ranked (Class A) Minnewaska secured a sweep over Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd at Glenwood.

Megan Thorfinnson won 6-0, 6-0 against Kayla Jahn at No. 2 singles. Alia Randt, Olivia Danielson and Kaylen Blair also claimed wins at Nos. 1, 3 and 4 singles.

Minnewaska hosts Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood.

LQPV/D-B goes to Sauk Centre at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg shut out MACCRAY in a West Central Conference match at Benson.

At No. 4 singles, the Braves’ Emily McGinty rallied to beat the Wolverines’ Kylie Prekker 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. Elle Kretscher added a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles for Benson/KMS.

The Braves play Minnewaska at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood. MACCRAY hosts Morris/Chokio-Alberta/West Central Area at 4 p.m. Thursday at Clara City.
