ICC delegation in Pakistan to assess Champions Trophy preparations: Reports

India’s participation in the tournament remains the biggest challenge for both the PCB and ICC

The International Cricket Council (ICC) wants to leave no stone unturned in assuring that Pakistan is well prepared to host their biggest ICC event in nearly three decades.

A delegation of four members of the cricket governing body has arrived in Pakistan to inspect all three venues (Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore) for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to begin on February 19 and last till until March 9, according to a report on Cricbuzz.

Though the renovation is going at its desired pace according to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the local media believes that Pakistan’s board is running behind schedule.

“The redevelopment of the stadiums in Karachi and Lahore is progressing rapidly and the PCB is confident that the construction companies will meet their targets on time. These upgrades are not just a necessity but a critical step in elevating our venues to meet the expectations of the modern game,” a PCB official spokesperson was quoted as saying.

“The two stadia required significant improvements to provide world-class facilities and enhanced experiences for fans, players, officials, and broadcasters alike. The PCB is resolutely committed to showcasing our venues as world-class destinations, adhering to the highest international standards and reinforcing our position on the global sporting stage,” he added.

This is the fourth visit by an ICC delegation since April 2024. Pakistan last hosted an ICC event in 1996 when they co-hosted for the ODI World Cup alongside India and Sri Lanka. However, if they are able to host the 2025 Champions Trophy, it would be the first time that they would be a solo host for an ICC tournament.

India’s participation in the tournament remains the biggest challenge for both the PCB and ICC as the Men in Blue have not travelled to Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup and have not played bilateral series against them since 2012.
