Local Roundup: Conneaut wins in three sets at home

LINESVILLE — Conneaut swept Tidioute Charter 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-8) in a Region 2 opening match for the Eagles on Tuesday at Conneaut Area Senior High School.

Kori Bova dished 31 assists and added five aces in the win. Courtney Perrye and Lainie Harrington had 14 and 10 kills, respectively. Morgan Poff added seven aces.

Conneaut is 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the region. The Eagles will play at Maplewood on Thursday for another region battle.

Tigers sweep Knights

RUSSELL — Maplewood beat Eisenhower 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-23) in a Region 2 match at Eisenhower High School on Tuesday.

The win pushed Maplewood to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the region.

Maggie Means tallied 21 assists, seven digs and five kills. Megan Woge and Madison O’Hara each had seven kills and three aces. Bree Neely added 11 digs and six kills.

Maplewood will host Conneaut on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Blue Devils top Orioles

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS — The Cambridge Springs girls volleyball team beat Rocky Grove 3-1 (25-15, 19-25, 25-9, 25-15) in a Region 2 match at the Devils Den on Tuesday.

Kenda Boozer dished 32 assists in the win. Bridget Bullock and Brooke Eldred had 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Payton Leandro led the defense with 11 digs and added five aces. Eldred led the team from the service line with six aces.

Cambridge Springs is 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the region. The Blue Devils will play at Tidioute Charter on Thursday in more region action.

CCA wins in three

The Crawford Christian Academy volleyball team beat Victory Christian 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-14) at home on Tuesday.

Taylor Frantz and Abryanna Epps each had 12 service points. Natalie Held had six kills and five digs. Emma Walton added six assists and five digs.

The Chargers will play at Heritage Christian School at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

Bulldogs place sixth at Marquette

Meadville, Saegertown and Conneaut competed at the Marquette Invitational hosted at the Country Club on Tuesday. Meadville finished sixth out of 29 boys golf teams, while Saegertown finished 11th, and Conneaut finished 29th.

The Bulldogs were led by Luke Ferry, who carded a 76. Robert Mahoney and Patrick Mahoney finished with a 77 and 78, respectively. Max Decker (91) and Cole Soboleski (94) finished behind them. Meadville finished with a team score of 322.

Caleb Anderson and Charlie Soboleski competed as individuals, finishing with a 79 and 98, respectively.

Saegertown finished in 11th place, with Mason Gjovik leading the way. Gjovik finished with a 77. Ryder Bailey carded an 85, with Tyler Cherpak shooting an 87. Mason Allio finished with an 88.

Conneaut finished in 29th place with a team score of 439. Luca Gabel led the Eagles at 98.

Meadville and Saegertown will compete in the Bill Mook Memorial Tournament at 9 a.m. on Friday at Wanango Golf Course. Conneaut is scheduled to travel to Wanango Golf Course at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday for a dual match with Oil City.

Meadville finishes fourth in mega match

RUSSELL — The Meadville girls golf team finished fourth in a Region 3 Mega Match hosted by Blueberry Hill Golf Course.

Brooke Hart led the way for the Bulldogs, finishing with an 87. Taylor Tidball (104) and Calloway Steyle (128) finished behind Hart. Meadville finished with a combined team score of 319.

Meadville is fifth place in the Region 3 standings with four points, three behind Erie. The Bulldogs will travel to Downing Golf Club for a Region 3 Mega Mach at 12 p.m. on Monday.

Cochranton sweeps Erie First

COCHRANTON —The Cochranton girls volleyball team swept Erie First Christian 3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-16) on Tuesday at The Bird Cage.

Dani Hoffman led with 14 kills. Claire McCartney added 10 kills and four digs with Eve Pfeiffer adding six kills. Maggie Jackson dished 27 assists and Macie Williams had 11 digs.

The Cards will play at Saegertown on Thursday.

Bailey earns postseason spot

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS — Saegertown’s Ryder Bailey earned a bid to the District 10 individual boys golf tournament with his performance on Monday.

Bailey shot an 82 at Riverside Golf Course in a district qualifying tournament to determine the final two qualifiers from Region 2. Bailey will join Saegertown teammates Mason Gjovik and Tyler Cherpak in the individual portion of the tournament on Oct. 1 and 2.
