  • Jaiswal has made a record-breaking start to his career

While Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were the stars of the day for the Indian cricket team against Bangladesh on the first day of play in the series opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Yashasvi Jaiswal ensured a solid start for India.

India had a nightmare start to their innings after losing the toss and being forced to bat first as star batters Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6) departed for single-digit scores within the first hour of the day.

However, Jaiswal ensured India’s batting unit did not collapse and continued his brilliant form with the bat in the longest format of the game. The star Indian opener made a knock of 56 in 118 balls which ensured he has a half-century in all the six Test matches he has played at home in his career.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Creates History

In the process of scoring the 8th half-century of his Test career, Jaiswal set a massive world record for the most runs in Test cricket after 10 innings at home. The 22-year-old Indian star broke a long-standing world record of West Indies batter George Headley.

After 10 innings at home, Headley had made 747 runs, and his record stood for 89 years before Jaiswal’s heroics. Legendary Pakistan batter Javed Miandad, Zimbabwe great Dave Houghton, and Sir Viv Richards are next on the list.

Most Test Runs At Home After First 10 Innings Of Career

Player Country Runs
Yashasvi Jaiswal India 768
George Headley West Indies 747
Javed Miandad Pakistan 743
Dave Houghton Zimababwe 687
Viv Richards West Indies 680

After making his Test debut in the West Indies, in which he made a century on his first outing for the national, team Jaiswal played two Test matches in South Africa. His first-ever match in Test cricket at home was earlier this year against England.

Jaiswal made 712 runs in the five-match series against England, which is the third-highest aggregate for any Indian in history. The left-hander became only the second Indian to score more than 700 runs in a Test series after Sunil Gavaskar. He also set the record for being the quickest Indian to score 1000 Test runs (number of matches)
