Here’s our round-up of all the latest Liverpool transfer news today (Saturday 21st September), as Liverpool show interest in Xavi Simmons and Reds sent warning over Angel Gomes.
Arne Slot to use ‘good connection’ to land €80m PSG star
It has been revealed that Slot is going to use the connection he has with PSG youngster Xavi Simons in order to bring him to Anfield.
Bild journalist Yvonne Gabriel spoke on the FC Bayern Insider podcast about Simons and the current plans surrounding him.
“It’s fair to say that the whole Premier League has long had Xavi on its radar. Liverpool were also extremely keen on him this summer, there is a good connection to coach Arne Slot.”
Fans are still hopeful that Mohamed Salah will renew his contract and continue with the Reds in seasons to come, but if he was to leave, Xavi Simons could provide a useful attacking spark to help cover for the major loss and could become his ideal heir.
Complications arise in Liverpool chase for CONFIRMED €60m transfer target
Liverpool’s pursuit of a confirmed €60m transfer target has become a lot more difficult with Arsenal and Real Madrid now linked.
The Reds were in pursuit of Real Sociedad player Martin Zubimendi. However, the Spanish midfielder decided against joining the Reds in favour of staying with his boyhood club.
There have been reports that Zubimendi is unhappy in San Sebastian and is regretting his decision not to come to Anfield, with his side currently struggling and sitting in 16th.
Liverpool are attempting to sign someone in this position in the January window, after deciding against going for another option in August, and Zubimendi has been linked again.
However, complications have arisen with both Real Madrid and Arsenal interested in the player.
However, Liverpool and sporting director Richard Hughes will be sure to keep tabs on the situation, in case there is more clarity about what Zubimendi wants to do when the winter transfer window opens.
Liverpool to battle Man Utd for EXPLOSIVE Richard Hughes protégé

Liverpool are reportedly seeking a left-back, a defensive midfielder and centre-back this January, with sporting director Richard Hughes looking to repeat a transfer trick he made in his time at Bournemouth.
Bournemouth’s left-back Milos Kerkez was brought to the Premier League by then sporting director Richard Hughes, and TEAMtalk have reported he is now looking to bring him to his new club.
The Hungarian international has a reported market value of €15.4m according to Footballtransfers.com, although he would probably cost a lot more. It would continue a pattern for both Hughes and the Reds of shopping lower down in the Premier League, which has provided a lot of success in recent years.
There has been previous interest in Kerkez from Manchester United and Chelsea, as well as from Germany and Italy, and if Liverpool are to make a move they will face competition for his signature.
Liverpool’s ‘TALENTED’ transfer target ‘WILL’ make Premier League move

Liverpool are reportedly interested in Leeds United starlet Harry Gray – brother of Tottenham Hotspur’s Archie Gray.
His performances in the U18s Premier League have attracted serious interest according to OneFootball.
The Reds are expected to face competition with Newcastle in order to secure the 15-year-old’s services.
Leeds United will be determined to keep hold of Harry for as long as possible with him boasting talent in abundance at such a tender age, but that all may depend on if the Yorkshire side can complete a return back to the Premier League.
Liverpool’s Chief Executive has a penchant for recruiting youngsters and has had plenty of success with talents he’s brought to Anfield in the past, whether that’s becoming first-team regulars or off-loading them when they’re ready for first-team football at hefty prices.
Liverpool given WARNING over signing England star Angel Gomes
Angel Gomes Lille England
The former Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes is reportedly a target for the 2019/20 Premier League champions. The 24-year-old left Old Trafford in search of first-team football and has been a key cog in the Lille system over recent seasons.
While Ryan Gravenberch has impressed for the Reds as the No6, the feeling is there needs to be an alternative to the Dutchman. And Gomes could be viewed as an opportunistic signing to strengthen the squad on the cheap.
Gravenberch has been praised for his ability to disrupt the opposition. He breaks play up, positions himself well to make interceptions and is quite active during defensive phases of play.
Gomes hasn’t shown that side of his game with Lille. The 5ft6 controller was averaging fewer than two tackles per 90 last season and had just a 50% success rate. He struggled in duels, on the ground and in the air, and he wasn’t making that many ball recoveries.
This isn’t to say he won’t be able to adapt that side of his game but there must be concerns over how he’s going to handle the physicality of the Premier League.
