Tributes continued to pour in this weekend from around the football world for Italia ’90 legend Totò Schillaci, including from Real Madrid and Palermo.
The Golden Boot winner at the 1990 World Cup whose six goals took Italy to third place as hosts was fondly recalled by all who experienced that tournament.
He passed away this week after a long battle with cancer, at a hospital in his home town of Palermo.
The local club played in Serie B today and had a moving tribute in the stands, complete with a huge banner of his Number 19 jersey from that World Cup.
Remembering the legend Schillaci
They played the anthem of that competition, Notti Magiche – Magic Nights – performed by Edoardo Di Bennato and Gianna Nannini.
There was a minute’s silence for Schillaci before every Italian football match this weekend.
Real Madrid also paid tribute with a minute’s silence ahead of their LaLiga game against RCD Espanyol.
