PSG Was Ready to Make Huge Bid for Barcelona Sensation, Journalist Reveals

This summer, rumors swirled about Paris Saint-Germain eyeing Lamine Yamal as a potential successor to Kylian Mbappé. Recently, a journalist revealed that the French club was ready to offer €200M for him, but ultimately, the deal didn’t materialize.

Mundo Deportivo reported over the summer that PSG was prepared to break its own transfer record, offering up to €250 million—surpassing the €222 million it had previously spent—to sign Yamal.

With Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr, and Mbappé gone, the capital club lacked the star power many have grown used to in the French capital. Since the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimović in 2012, PSG have pushed to have that recognizable name in world football.

As a result, Le Parisien Dominique Séverac states that the capital club was ready to pay €200 million to lure Yamal away from the Catalan side.

“Is there an offensive star missing? Maybe, but who was actually available this summer?” Séverac noted (h/t Le10Sport). “Osimhen? Is he really a star? Would he fit into Luis Enrique’s style? What about Julian Alvarez? Is he a star? There weren’t really any big names ready to move this summer. Paris wanted Lamine Yamal but quickly realized it was impossible despite being ready to offer €200 million.”

It will be interesting to see if, in the future, the French giants decide to put in this eye-popping sum to see if they can secure another Barcelona player.
