Beth Mooney celebrates 100-match milestone ahead of White Ferns clash: LIVE

Date:

Australian opener Beth Mooney will celebrate her 100th T20I when she faces New Zealand at Mackay’s Great Barrier Reef Arena on Sunday evening.

The 30-year-old has been one of Australia’s most consistent T20 cricketers since making her international debut in 2016, scoring 2842 runs at 40.60 in the game’s shortest format.

Mooney, a three-time T20 World Cup champion, becomes just the sixth Australian woman to reach the 100-match milestone in T20Is, joining modern greats Alyssa Healy, Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry, Jess Jonassen and Megan Schutt.

“It’s nice to play one game for Australia, but to play 100 when there was probably a time where I didn’t think I was going to play any, is really special,” Mooney said on Saturday.

“I’m very lucky to have been given the opportunities I have by the selectors and the coaches I’ve had, so hopefully it’ll be another win for Australia and there’ll be a few runs off the end of my bat.

“I’ve got some really important family coming up as well to watch … I’m just lucky and grateful that I’ve got that support away from the game, to have people in the grandstand cheering me on and that unconditional support that we get as athletes, whether we’re playing at home or away.”

The second T20I between Australia and New Zealand gets underway at 7.10pm AEST.
