Retired former Barcelona goalkeeper offers to cover injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has offered to come out of retirement to replace the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Ter Stegen suffered a serious knee injury during Barcelona’s 5-1 win over Villarreal and, while a formal recovery time has not been revealed, reports suggest he is set to miss around eight months of action.

Almost immediately after Ter Stegen’s injury, various reports stated that Barcelona could look to sign a replacement for the German. The transfer window is closed until January, but the Catalan giants remain able to sign any free agents.

Bravo, a 150-cap Chile international who is now 41, retired this summer after a four-season spell with Real Betis, but he has confirmed he would be prepared to come out of retirement if Barcelona make the call.

“If Barcelona calls me, I will be ready,” he told winwin.

Bravo spent two years at Barcelona between 2014 and 2016, making 75 appearances in all competitions before leaving to join Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. The Chile international kept 43 clean sheets during his time at Camp Nou.

He won La Liga during both his years with the club and even contributed to the Champions League triumph in 2014/15 – the same season that he was named in La Liga’s best XI.

Copa America successes in 2015 and 2016 was the highlight of Bravo’s illustrious international career which spanned 20 years.
