Genoa and Sampdoria announce exciting 50/50 partnership for stadium bid

Genoa and Sampdoria have both released statements announcing that they have created a new 50/50 entity named Genova Stadium Srl, with the intention of launching a joint bid to purchase the Stadio Luigi Ferraris from the local authorities.

Genoa and Sampdoria intend to buy Stadio Luigi Ferraris

Both Genoa and Sampdoria both play their home games at the same stadium, and have been sharing the ground since the mid-1940s.

The stadium, currently the oldest professional football ground still in use in Italy, is owned by the city of Genoa, rather than by either of the two clubs who use it.

Genoa and Sampdoria have informed supporters that they have an ‘objective’ to formulate an offer to buy the stadium from the local council.

Owning the stadium provides more long-term security for both teams, and also brings an opportunity to use the ground for other commercial events, which could help drive revenues up.

Coincidentally, Genoa and Samp will play each other at the Stadio Ferraris foro the first time in almost two years on Tuesday evening in the Coppa Italia second round, kicking off at 20.00 BST. Genoa are the designated home team.
