Former Hartford girls basketball coach found guilty of sexual assault

HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – A 33-year-old former girls basketball coach from Hartford, was found guilty of sexual assault to a minor on Friday.

The charges relate to an incident on June 13, 2021, when police responded to reports of a sexual assault victim in a hotel lobby.

The victim, an international basketball player, stated she was being hosted by Lawhorn to play for his local AAU girls basketball team.

Following the incident, Lawhorn was arrested after confessing to the sexual encounter, knowing the victim was under the age of 18.

In addition to the sexual assault charges, Lawhorn was found in possession of crack cocaine, which was packaged for sale.

He had previously pleaded guilty to federal felony drug charges and was sentenced on February 9, 2024.

Lawhorn is scheduled for sentencing on the sexual assault charge on November 14, 2024, in Hartford Superior Court.
