Expert Reveals Why Bayern Munich Veteran Appeals to PSG Amid Barcelona Interest

Bayern Munich and Joshua Kimmich appear to want to remain together past this 2024-25 season. As a result, this wouldn’t be ideal for FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain as the two sides were keen on the veteran midfielder this summer.

One expert explained why the Parisians are keen on Kimmich despite his being in the final years of his prime, even though the capital club is pursuing younger talent.

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona has targeted Jonathan Tah of Bayer Leverkusen and Kimmich as part of its 2025 plans to strengthen the team’s midfield and defense.

Recently, Bayern Munich’s Max Eberl stated that they are keen on retaining Kimmich past June 2025 when his contract expires.

“We need Joshua Kimmich to be a face of the project,” Eberl said. “His performances, willingness, heart… he is predestined for that. He should be the captain of Bayern Munich of the future… But first we have to extend the contract!”

In his latest Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, CBS Sports’ Jonathan Johnson discussed why the Parisians are keen on Kimmich joining their squad after having a reported interest in him for the last few months.

“PSG have looked at Joshua Kimmich in the past,” Johnson wrote. “They’ve been attentive to his situation at Bayern Munich as he’s close now to the end of his contract, and my understanding is that his versatility is something that appeals to PSG – he obviously has quality in a central midfield position, but also as a makeshift right-back of very high quality.”
