talkSPORT pundit claims ‘OUTSTANDING’ Liverpool star is now UNDROPPABLE

With Ryan Gravenberch commanding the defensive midfield role, Alexis Mac Allister has been given much more freedom this season.

And while the goals and assists haven’t quite come yet this season, his impact on the ball in the tight spaces has been highly impressive leading to an extended stay in Arne Slot’s strongest team.

In a video picking his team of the week for Talk Sport, pundit Gabby Agbonlahor spoke on Mac Allister, claiming ‘he doesn’t get enough plaudits.’

He added: “It’s easy to pick midfielders in your Team in the Week who score, but I love the way when Mac Allister receives the ball off the centre-halves, he’s on the half turn, he can already see his forward pass and he starts off a lot of attacks for Liverpool.

“I think he is an outstanding footballer. His footballing brain is top, and he is a real part of this midfield at Liverpool now and undroppable the way he is playing.”

Despite his last international break with Argentina being somewhat injury-ridden, with a few different muscle issues, the Argentine has been able to manage his minutes well and have a real impact on Liverpool’s strong start to the season.

Mac Allister the unsung hero?

Now playing with the freedom to roam the pitch and get on the ball as much as possible, the No8 has found his position to be less defined this season, which has enabled him to be right at the heart of what Liverpool does.

Occasionally he has had to sit back and make use of the defensive skills he learnt last season, now playing in a double-pivot with Gravenberch who is learning on the job.

But in order to not leave Dominik Szoboszlai high and dry in offensive positions, Slot has given Mac Allister full licence to utilise all of his abilities in a hybrid role.

Despite Liverpool having a limited ability to rotate the midfield, with Curtis Jones only recently back from an injury and Harvey Elliott currently out for the foreseeable future, potentially returning after the next international break in October, Mac Allister has managed the responsibility of playing most games well.

We may see some changes coming up in the next few weeks as games come thick and fast, but Mac Allister has once again proved how integral an asset he can be when he’s at his best.
