Khalil joins Towson Women’s Basketball Staff – Women’s HoopDirt

The Towson University women’s basketball coaching staff has added Lorie Khalil as an assistant coach, announced by Head Coach Laura Harper.
 
“Lorie’s track record of excellence exemplifies what we represent here at Towson University,” added Coach Harper. “We are elated to have her join our staff with 19 years of experience as a head coach. Lorie is a proven winner with energy that is unmatched. Our women’s basketball team will benefit tremendously by the addition of Lorie to our TEAM.”
 
Khalil joins Towson with a 252-155 overall coaching record over 19 seasons as a head coach with three Division III basketball teams, finishing with 20 or more wins in each of the last three seasons at Penn State Lehigh Valley. Dating back to 2014, her overall record with the Nittany Lions was 180-54.
 
She earned United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Women’s Basketball Division II National Coach of the Year in 2023 following the Nittany Lions’ 23-7 season with a 17-2 mark in Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) play.
 
Other achievements during her time at Penn State Lehigh Valley include two conference coach of the year selections (2017, 2019), a conference championship in 2019 along with finishing as USCAA national runners-up in 2018. Khalil led the Nittany Lions to a program record 24-straight wins in the 2018-19 season.
 
Over ten years with Lehigh Valley, Khalil has coached 10 USCAA All-Americans, two National Player of the Year selections and one National Student-Athlete of the Year. At the PSUAC level, she has coached 16 all-conference selections, five defensive players of the year, four rookies of the year and three players of the year.
 
Prior to Penn State Lehigh Valley, Khalil served as head coach of Arcadia and Centenary.
 
At Arcadia, she eclipsed 100 career coaching wins in three seasons with the Knights.
 
At Centenary, she led the Cyclones to finishes as the top overall team scoring offense in NCAA Division III in 2009 and 2010, averaging 82 and 83 points/game respectively. The team’s berth to the 2009 ECAC Championships was the first in program history.
 
Prior to taking over as the Centenary interim head coach in 2005, Khalil served as an assistant coach for two years.
 
Outside the collegiate ranks, the Pennsylvania native has coached internationally in Europe and Central and South America through Student-Athlete World USA (SAWUSA). She was named the 2023 SAWUSA International Travel Coach of the Year.

Khalil graduated from Moravian College in 2003 with a degree in business management. Her collegiate playing career began at Delaware Valley College for two seasons, where the team was 2001 East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Champions. She ultimately finished her career with the Greyhounds of Moravian and graduated two years later.
