Highland, Hudson and North are entering girls tennis sectional tournaments as league champions.
Highland won the Suburban League American Conference championship outright on its home tennis courts on Sept. 20 under coach Lisa Reynolds.
One day later, coach Tim Morgan guided Hudson to a share of the Suburban League National Conference championship with Solon at Highland.
North won the City Series championship outright Monday at the Towpath Tennis Center under coach Peyton Young.
Here is a breakdown of each tournament:
Highland sweeps all courts to win Suburban League American Conference girls tennis league championship
Highland’s Ally Haynes, Claire Schlak and Wren Marquis won SLAC singles titles. Lily Hantz and Kenzie Pawlak were victorious in first doubles and Ella Tople and Hailey Pennington triumphed in second doubles.
The Hornets went 7-0 in SLAC duals before winning the tourament title. Revere went 6-1 in duals.
Haynes topped Copley’s Cassandra Komlanc 6-1, 6-2 in the first singles final. Revere’s Gabriel Iler finished third and Aurora’s Kamy Milano was fourth.
Schlak beat Revere’s Sadhvi Kurra 6-0, 6-0 in the second singles final. Copley’s Rebekah Ashby was third and Aurora’s Zelie Cerda was fourth.
Marquis defeated Revere’s Ananya Jayaraman in the third singles final 6-1, 6-1. Aurora’s Addison Martin was third and Copley’s Misha Reyes-Leff was fourth.
Hantz and Pawlak won the first doubles final 6-3, 6-2 over Revere’s Bridget Steiner and Ilyana Leenheer. Barberton’s Sophie Samples and Tehya Graham were third and Copley’s Aanya Patel and Vaishu Medapati were fourth.
Tople and Pennington won the second doubles final 6-1, 6-1 over Revere’s Rasika Veerappan and Aleena Siedlecki. Aurora’s Ashley Kohl and Eliza Cunningham finished third Copley’s Ava Vasquez and Ara Larrauri were fourth.
Hudson and Solon share Suburban League National Conference girls tennis league championship
Hudson’s Emma Liu, Mallory Hannan and Bransyn Mathia won SLNC singles titles and led the Explorers to the tournament title. Solon won the SLNC regular season crown with a 7-0 dual record. Hudson was 6-1.
Liu defeated Brecksville’s Sophia Liu 6-1, 6-0 in the first singles final. Wadsworth’s Lauren Ball finished third and Solon’s Victoria Dai was fourth.
Hannan won the second singles final 6-0, 6-1 over North Royalton’s Sana Hameed. Solon’s Sanvi Singh took third and Wadsworth’s Sienna Lucci was fourth.
Mathia won the third singles final 6-1, 6-1 over Solon’s Isabella Chang. Brecksville’s Corrina Yuan finished third and North Royalton’s Julia Fronee was fourth.
Solon’s Olivia Liu and Isabella Liu earned the first doubles title by beating Hudson’s Aanya Patel and Emma Sutton 6-3, 6-0. Wadsworth’s Avery Neville and Tessa Demite were third and Twinsburg’s Izzie Sudnick and Annelise Zimmerman were fourth.
Hudson’s Millie Griffiths and Annie Jeong and Solon’s Jiya Rai and Claire Huang were tied 3-3 in the third set in the SLNC second doubles final in the tournament at the end of the day’s competition. Griffiths and Jeong won the first set 7-6 and Rai and Huang took the second set 6-1. A date to finish the match has not been finalized.
Stow’s Jenna Obert and Kaelyn McGovern finished third in second doubles and Brecksville’s Veronica Marita and Kara Sabo were fourth.
North wins Akron City Series girls tennis championship
North placed first on three courts to win the City Series championship for the third year in a row.
Oceana Lee won at first singles, Jharna Rai was victorious at third singles and Niya Rai and Josselyne Vega-Rodriguez were the winners at first doubles.
Oceana Lee bested Aggie Llewellyn of Firestone 0-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the first singles final. Lee was the runner-up at first singles the previous three years, to Llewellyn in 2023 and 2022 and to Firestone graduate Grace Moritz in 2021.
Firestone’s Savannah Spencer beat North’s Sumika Tamang 6-3, 6-1 in the second singles final. Jharna Rai topped Firestone’s Pepper Adams 6-1, 6-1 in the third singles final.
Niya Rai and Vega-Rodriguez defeated Firestone’s Leah Cirullo and Erica Hunt 6-2, 6-4 in the first doubles final.
Firestone’s Myliyah Phok and Rhiannon Smith beat North’s Sanjita Subba and Shreeya Kattel 6-2, 6-1 in the second doubles final.
Manchester girls tennis update
Manchester finished as the runner-up to Canton South in the Northeast Tennis Conference with Leah Page and Cassidy Perry winning the second doubles championship.
Manchester (16-4) has won 10 duals in a row under coach Richard Burris. The Panthers’ singles players are Amy Le, Cayleigh Bowe and Lacy Hall, and Faith Grandon and Camille Taylor play first doubles.
