Hong Kong Bulls eye China league domination, but team no nearer to CBA spot

Date:

Fresh from a historic victory in the National Basketball League Finals, the Hong Kong Bulls are already looking to bolster their squad to defend their title next year.

But despite the club’s ambition to play in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), team owner Tony Chin To said there was no timetable for them to play in the country’s elite league.

Chin said while he was “in constant and close communication” with the General Administration of Sport of China as well as the country’s basketball association there was little sign of his franchise taking the step up any time soon.

“I believe there will be a good time in the future and hope to have this opportunity,” he said. “We don’t know when it will be, but whichever leagues we are playing in, we have to persevere and do a good job managing the team’s culture and fans.”

Established in June last year and competing only in their second NBL season, the Bulls beat Anhui Wenyi 100-86 in Hefei last week to seal a 4-1 series win over the four-time champions.
