Lazio boss Marco Baroni hails Taty Castellanos-Boulaye Dia pair after Torino win

Lazio manager Marco Baroni praised his men after registering their first away victory in Serie A this season at the expense of Torino, who started the weekend on top of the table.

Matteo Guendouzi broke the deadline early on while Boulaye Dia doubled the visitors’ lead at the hour mark. The Granata pulled one back through substitute Che Adams, but an 89th strike from Tijjani Noslin restored Lazio’s two-goal cushion. Not even a splendid acrobatic pearler from Saul Coco in added time was enough to prevent Torino’s first defeat of the season.

After the thrilling 3-2 victory, Baroni hailed his team as they managed to register positive results despite playing three games on the road in the space of a week.

“I want to congratulate the boys, we traveled a lot during the week but they remained focused,” said the 61-year-old in his post-match interview with DAZN via La Lazio Siamo Noi.

“Our displays are improving, but we are still lagging in certain aspects. However, we must also be content with how much we’re creating and scoring. The players are receptive, they follow our guidelines and work hard. I always say that we play the way we train.”

Baroni admitted the team is conceding too many goals after failing to register a single clean sheet in six Serie A fixtures.

“Defensively, I think we’re moving well, but unfortunately we suffer a lot when our opponents stay still. We can still improve on this aspect.

The Lazio boss is happy for Noslin’s first goal in the club’s colors, urging him to remain joyful while on the pitch.

Noslin has the beauty of mental cleanliness, he must maintain his joy. When you go up a level, the pressure increases, both the staff and his teammates are helping him.

“He must be lightened a bit, and the same goes for [Loum] Tchaouna. They have arrived at an important club, we must support them.”

Finally, Baroni appears determined to maintain the striking partnership of Dia and Taty Castellanos after finding success in the past few weeks.

“I saw how they were working in training and I understood that they can play together on the pitch. They have a mobility that I like, they take away points of reference from the opponent. Now they have to stay calm and score goals. We help them, just as they have to do without the ball. There’s always room to improve.”

Lazio raised their tally to 10 points and climbed up to a temporary sixth place in the Serie A table.
