Texas Medical Board temporarily suspends Lubbock psychiatrist

Date:

The Texas Medical Board temporarily suspended a Lubbock psychiatrist who reportedly failed to sign up for alcohol and drug testing.

A news release on Friday states that the board has determined that Dr. Astik Joshi’s “continuation in the practice of medicine poses a continuing threat to public welfare.”

The suspension follows an agreement that Joshi, who specializes in psychiatry and pediatric psychiatry, signed in May to abstain from the use of alcohol and prescription drugs and enroll in the board’s testing program. It was not immediately clear what prompted that agreement.

However, Joshi, who has been in practice for seven years, failed to sign up for testing and stopped responding to Board staff, the release states.

A hearing on the temporary suspension will be set as soon as practicable, the release states.
