Small-budget Tamil film set against cricket backdrop becomes box office blockbuster | Latest Telugu cinema news | Movie reviews | OTT Updates, OTT

Recently, a small-budget Tamil film named Lubber Pandhu has hit the screens. It features Harish Kalyan in the lead role and is set against the cricket backdrop. Directed by Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, the sports drama is setting the cash registers ringing. The film’s box office trend has taken the trade pundits by surprise.

Normally any film will collect more bucks in its first weekend. But interestingly, Lubber Pandhu’s second-weekend collections are bigger than the first-weekend collections. Lubber Pandhu made around Rs. 4.35 crores gross in its first weekend, while the film raked in a solid Rs. 6.35 crores gross in its second weekend. During the weekdays, Lubber Pandhu made another Rs. 5 crores gross.

One more interesting thing to observe here is that Lubber Pandhu was released alongside five other Tamil films, which made it tough for the sports drama to get sufficient screens. Even in its second weekend Lubber Pandhu faced a worthy opponent in the form of Karthi’s Meiyazhagan. Still, Lubber Pandhu stood its ground and won the hearts of the audience.

The Tamil Nadu total now stands at Rs. 16 crores. The film would have easily made more than Rs. 40 crores in Tamil Nadu if not for the bad release. Nonetheless, Lubber Pandhu will have a solid run till the time Vettaiyan arrives. Lubber Pandhu’s worldwide collection is nearing the Rs. 30 crore gross mark. Dinesh Attakathi played another lead role. Swasika, Sanjana, Kaali Venkat, Devadarshini, and Bala Saravanan played key roles.
