Can Indiana Women’s Basketball Get Over the Hump This Season?

Date:

The pendulum of momentum has undeniably been swinging in the favor of the Indiana University women’s basketball team over the course of the past few seasons. After ages of mediocrity, this program has made it’s way from the middle of the pack to one of the top teams in college hoops.

In spite of the continued growth that has been exhibited by this group under the guidance of one of the NCAA’s top head coaches Teri Moren, it still feels as though this squad is subtly slept on when it comes to the national spotlight. For example, the Hoosiers were pegged to finish fifth in the conference this season per the Big Ten’s perennial preseason coaches and media polls despite boasting one of the deepest units in the universe of women’s college hoops. It is clear that in order to garner the genuine level of respect which they deserve, IUWBB will need to go above and beyond their expectations.

Indiana University Women's Basketball

The cream and crimson concluded last season on a major high note, giving eventual champion South Carolina a real run for their money in the Sweet Sixteen. Unfortunately, the alpha’s of that particular group (Mackenzie Holmes and Sara Scalia) are no longer suiting up for this team. Now, it will be on the likes of Sydney Parrish, Chloe Moore-McNeil and Yarden Garzon to lead this program to the promised land.

Earning another invitation to the NCAA tournament seems inevitable, but the overlying assignment for this entire ball club is now to break through the barriers holding them back from bringing home some hardware at the conclusion of March Madness. Until that day comes, the Hoosiers seem destined to continue flying under the radar. Here is to hoping that day will arrive sometime very soon, with optimistic visions praying for it to come to fruition this season.

Keep going, ladies!
