PSG considered making a world-record bid of over €200 million for Barcelona crown jewel – Romano

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Paris Saint-Germain had once considered making a massive offer exceeding €200 million for Barcelona’s rising star, Lamine Yamal.

This took place in 2024, during a period when PSG realised that Kylian Mbappe had made up his mind to join Real Madrid. PSG’s intention was clear – they wanted to make a record-breaking bid for Yamal, one of the most talented youngsters in European football.

However, despite these internal discussions, no formal offer was ever sent. This is because Barcelona made it clear that they had no interest in engaging in any negotiations for Yamal, who was never available for transfer.

The club was firm in its stance, refusing to entertain even the prospect of such a bid from PSG. It was not just about money, but also about how highly they value Yamal as part of their future plans.

Yamal himself is reportedly very content at Barcelona, and the club is treating his contract renewal as a top priority.

Even though he signed a contract that runs until 2026, his incredible performances on the pitch have made Barcelona realise they need to secure his long-term future as soon as possible.

They are aware that his growing market value and the increasing interest from top European clubs make it crucial to revisit his contract.

Negotiations over a new deal for Yamal are expected to take place before the end of 2024. However, these talks may not be straightforward due to his rapidly rising stock in the football world.

Barcelona will need to offer a significantly improved salary if they want to ensure Yamal remains a key part of their squad for years to come.

The club is determined to keep him, but they are aware that it will take a substantial effort to ward off interest from other clubs and secure his future.Photo by David Ramos/Getty Images
