Hostettler takes 12th, Wade and Meek are 14th at Div. II Northeast District golf tournament

Date:

The day didn’t start off well for anyone, except for the weather was outstanding at Good Park Golf Course, the site of the Div. II Northeast District tournament. On Wednesday, the top two teams and top two individual golfers would advance to state.

Locally, seniors Madison Wade, from Dalton, and Dally Meek, from Hillsdale, made their return and junior Kylie Hostettler from Norwayne made her first team appearance. Wade came out firing the best with four pars on her first six holes before finishing the back nine with a 44, that was buoyed by a four-over par-4 on hole No. 18. She came firing back on the front nine with four more pars to finish with an overall 88 and was 14th.

Madison Wade's reaction says it all as she sinks a putt for par on hole no. 10 to start her day at the Div. II Northeast District.

“Madi battled hard in a very tough district,” Bulldogs coach Isaac Haver said. “There were a few big numbers that put a damper on her score and made it tough to come back from. Still, Madi has had a fantastic career for Dalton and has been a huge part of our program for the past four years.”

Meek left an impressive showing on the front nine after some struggles on the back left her in a tough spot, yet the Falcon senior didn’t flinch. Showing a short-term memory, Meek battled her way back from a couple rough holes to put together an 88 and finished tied with Wade.

“She really battled today,” Hillsdale coach Kyle Wissel said. “She kept calm, played her game and I couldn’t be prouder of her. She has had a great career here, is an incredible young lady and has meant a ton to this program.”

Hostettler started her afternoon off with three straight bogeys on the back nine before getting a pair of pars on holes 14 and 15 to finish with a 45 on that stretch of nine holes. Turning the curve to the front nine, she hit pars on three of the first five holes and finished her day with an 87 to finish 12th overall.

“It was truly impressive to watch Kylie and her dad (assistant coach Matt Hostettler) manage the course today,” coach Joe Chaffin said. “Kylie doesn’t hit long, but she placed the ball almost perfectly all day on a pretty tight course. She made very few mistakes, we wish a few more putts would have fallen, but that’s golf.

“More importantly, for her first trip to districts, she showed that the moment wasn’t too big for her and that’s so encouraging heading into the offseason.”

Div. III East District

On the boys side of things, Hiland competed at the River Greens Golf Club where it just missed the cut to state by a fifth-man tiebreaker. The Hawks and Garaway finished tied at 319 total team strokes with the Pirates getting the edge when their fifth score came in at 86. That score came from Austin Tedrick and Hiland’s fifth score came into the clubhouse at 97.

Advancing to state though individually was Camden Bille, who fired a 75, with 11 pars and two eagles to clinch his ticket out for the Hawks.
