BATTLE CREEK – The fans have spoken.
The winner of the latest Enquirer Athlete of the Week fan poll is Arabella Stanley of the Harper Creek girls golf team.
Fans got behind Stanley to help her edge finalists Addi Dzwik, Amiyah Gibson and Akin Olapade. Stanley received 59 percent of the vote by the 5 p.m. Wednesday deadline. Thanks to her fans, she is being featured in this Enquirer Athlete of the Week Sunday spotlight.
Harper Creek won the 2024 All-City Girls Golf Championship last week at Riverside Golf Club, shooting a team score of 170 to take first. Stanley, a senior captain, helped lead her team by shooting a 41 to tie for third. Earlier in the week, Stanley also helped Harper Creek defend its title in the Interstate 8 Conference as the Beavers won the league championship tournament. Stanley tied for second in the conference tournament with a round of 89.
“We go through one through five, really one through six. We have all six girls who are really close and can all play well on a given day. It was a good day (at All-City) for all of them and that depth was a big reason we won today. Any time you can beat your city rivals, it is a good day,” Harper Creek coach Jason Knickerbocker said.
“Arabella is the captain and leader of the Harper Creek golf team. She has played steady all year with a nine-hole average of 44. She is looking forward to leading the team into the regional tournament this coming Tuesday at Coldwater Golf Course.”
