Gurpur – Kaikamba, Oct 5, 2024 : ICYM-PYC Gurpur and the youth commission jointly organised the PYC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEASON – 2, 5A side football and 7A side cricket tournament on 29th September after the Eucharistic Mass in the Pompei Football & Cricket Ground to create awareness regarding the prohibition of usage of drugs. The program began with the inauguration ceremony followed by a stage program. ICYM – PYC Director & Parish Priest – V. Rev. Fr. Rudolf Ravi D’sa, a well-known Sportsman of the Parish Mr. Nelson Pinto as the Chief Guest, ICYM Mangalore Diocese Vice President & ICYM Pezar Deanery Representative Ms. Riana D’Cunha, Parish Pastoral Council Vice President Mr. Romans Lobo, Parish 21 Commissions Coordinator Mrs. Hilda Menezes, ICYM – PYC Animator and Youth Commission Secretary Mr. Godwin Tauro, ICYM – PYC President Lester Menezes, ICYM – PYC Secretary Preema Menezes and ICYM – PYC Sports Secretary Augustine Menezes were the dignitaries on the dais.

ICYM – PYC Gurpur Organises PYC Champions League Football & Cricket Tournament

PYC President Lester Menezes welcomed the gathering. The dignitaries on the dais unveiled the trophies of the tournament and inaugurated the event – PYC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEASON 2. Chief Guest Mr. Nelson Pinto motivated all the players and wished them good luck for the tournament. The anti-drug campaign program was led by Nishanth D’Cunha. The dignitaries on the dais presented and attached the ANTI-DRUG logos to the 9 team captains and announced the ‘SAY NO TO DRUGS’ slogan of this campaign. Next, ICYM – PYC Director V. Rev. Fr. Rudolf Ravi D’sa appreciated the youth for organizing many events for the parishioners and blessed the players and the tournament. In the end, ICYM-PYC Secretary Preema Menezes gave the vote of thanks. Vinod Miranda was the Master of Ceremony for this Inauguration Ceremony.

Closing Ceremony of PYC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEASON – 2 was conducted on 29th September at 6 PM in the Pompei Football and Cricket Ground. An accomplished Sportsman of the Parish Mr. Nelson Pinto as the Chief Guest, Parish Pastoral Council Vice President Mr. Romans Lobo, Parish 21 Commissions Coordinator Mrs. Hilda Menezes, PYC Animator and Youth Commission Secretary Mr. Godwin Tauro, ICYM – PYC President Lester Menezes, ICYM – PYC Secretary Preema Menezes and ICYM – PYC Sports Secretary Augustine Menezes were the dignitaries on the dais. ICYM – PYC President formally welcomed the gathering. Later prizes were announced by Izil Rodrigues and the dignitaries on the dais distributed the prizes to all the winners as mentioned below.

• Best Goalkeeper: Blyton Rodrigues
• Best Defender: Anton Menezes

JUNIOR MALE FOOTBALL
• Winners: Spartans FC
• Runners-up: Red Dragons FC
• Best Striker: Shaun Saldanha
• Best Defender: Preston Menezes
• Best Goalkeeper: Anston Andrade

The entire ICYM-PYC team well organised this tournament. A total of 9 teams, 3 Categories (Junior Male, Senior Male & Girls) and 61 players participated, making this tournament a grand success. Commentators of the tournament were Roylin Lobo, Deepak D’souza, Vaibhav Rodrigues and Austin Pinto which made this event more engaging. The Core Committee of the PYC along with all the members and sponsorships, contributed to the success of the PYC Champions League Season 2.
