Manchester City centre-back set for “longer period” on sidelines due to hamstring injury, club announcement reveals

A hamstring injury sustained in midweek action will sideline one of Manchester City’s on-loan talents for a “longer period of time”, it has been confirmed.

Luke Mbete left the club on another loan agreement during the summer transfer window, despite having been granted the opportunity to spend pre-season working alongside Pep Guardiola and his squad in the United States.

The 21-year-old featured in a number of positions for the club in their four-game tour of the USA over the summer, including the left-back and left-sided central defensive role. However, it was decided that more experience in the English Football League would be most valuable.

Having already spent months developing with the likes of Huddersfield Town and Bolton Wanderers in the Football League, as well as Dutch side FC Den Bosch during the most-recent campaign.

However, Mbete has sustained a fresh blow to his young career at the senior level of the game, as per confirmation from his current loan club earlier this week.

As per an announcement from Northampton Town this week, on-loan Manchester City centre-back talent Luke Mbete is now facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury in the midweek game against Bolton Wanderers.

Northampton manager, Jon Brady told the media, “Luke has a hamstring injury and we are just awaiting some further results on that in terms of the best method of treatment.”

He continued, “The signs are that he is going to be out for a longer period of time but we have to just wait and see.”

Luke Mbete was outspoken over the summer regarding the opportunity to work with Pep Guardiola on various occasions during his development, telling reporters, “He loves what he does, a perfectionist.

“He loves football, that’s all he thinks about. I’ve been lucky to work under him. He’s taught me so much, made me understand the game in different ways. I’m so grateful.”

It remains to be seen whether Mbete has a long-term future at the Etihad Stadium, but the impact the club has already had on his career is hugely important, with the player crediting the likes of Vincent Kompany and Ruben Dias as key influences behind his game.
