Arsenal Women vs Everton Women: Preview, predictions and lineups

Arsenal welcome Everton to the Emirates Stadium in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday afternoon.

It’s one of the big games of the weekend following the postponement of Chelsea‘s meeting with Manchester United. Both Arsenal and Manchester City, who are in action this week despite their Champions League involvement, have a big opportunity to pile pressure on their title rivals.

Arsenal have had a strong start to the season, winning one and drawing one of their league games so far alongside their progression into the group stage of the Champions League. Everton, on the other hand, have suffered two defeats in the league and been struck by an early injury crisis.

Here’s 90min’s preview of Sunday’s clash.

Arsenal team news

Leah Williamson has missed the last couple of weeks of action with concussion but the England captain was pictured in training ahead of the weekend.

The Gunners will also be without long-term absentee Victoria Pelova, who is recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Lina Hurtig and Steph Catley are also yet to make a matchday squad this season as they continue their own recoveries.

Eidevall also has the added pressure of Champions League football to contend this season. His side will face Bayern Munich away next week, which could impact his team selection on Sunday against the Toffees.

Arsenal predicted lineup vs Everton

Arsenal predicted lineup vs Everton (4-4-2): Van Domselaar; Fox, Wubben-Moy, Codina, McCabe; Foord, Walti, Cooney-Cross, Mead; Russo, Maanum.

Everton team news

It’s been a difficult start to the season for Brian Sorensen’s side where injuries are concerned. Midfielder Aurora Galli was hit by an ACL blow in their opening game against Brighton and summer signing Inma Gabarro suffered the same fate in their league meeting with Man Utd last weekend.

The Toffees were in League Cup action midweek against Newcastle United but could only manage a 1-1 draw against the Championship side. They picked up an extra point after winning a penalty shootout, but it’s been a tough week for the Merseyside club.

In more positive news, goalkeeper Emily Ramsey was named on the bench against Newcastle after her own injury lay-off. Melissa Lawley and Karen Holmgaard are both still absent. Meanwhile, young midfielder Macy Settle has been recalled from her loan spell at Blackburn Rovers due to the fitness crisis.

Everton predicted lineup vs Arsenal (3-4-3): Brosnan; Vanhaevermaet, Finnigan, Stenevik; Hope, Hayashi, Wheeler, S.Holmgaard; Sarri, Snoeijs, Olesen.

Arsenal vs Everton score prediction

Despite conceding early against Man Utd last weekend and losing a key player to injury, Everton held firm to keep the scoreline down to 1-0. Their defensive resilience will be crucial in ensuring Arsenal don’t run away with the game on Sunday.

That being said, it’s hard to see anything other than a home win for the Gunners. Even if it’s just one moment of quality, they should have enough to see off an injury-hit Everton side at home.
