Wednesday Headlines: Kentucky Basketball Pro Day and Media Day Recap

Date:

Good morning, BBN!

It’s been an exciting time to be a Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan. The last two days, we’ve got an inside look at Coach Pope’s practices, drills, and playstyle, with Pro Day and Media Day occurring.

The first note is the speed at which these players are playing. Shots are going up pretty consistently within the first 12 seconds of the possession. More possessions, more opportunities to score, which is exciting.

The second note I’ve seen from reports and videos on Twitter is that the amount of passing this team does is like a breath of fresh air. No more one-on-one ball; this system is going to share the ball on every possession.

The final note is that BBN is going to love this team, not only for their play on the court, but for the person they are off of it. Media day was full of these Cats showing off how personable they all are, how mature, and how committed they are to this team and this state as a whole.

The women’s team also had an open practice and media day on Tuesday. This team is brand new just like the men’s team, and they should be a lot of fun as well. Brooks’ system looks exciting and it’s nice to have a new energy around the women’s team.

The fun doesn’t stop here, with Big Blue Madness this week, and the Blue-White scrimmage next Friday, the hype will only continue to increase.

Check out a full breakdown with videos and quotes from Mark Pope and Alvin Brooks at UK media day here.
