Girls tennis: Litchfield, Minnewaska dominate 6A individual tourney

Oct. 9—ROGERS — Four area doubles teams and two singles players have advanced to the semifinals of Section 6A individual play on Wednesday at Rogers Tennis Club.

The doubles semifinals feature teammates facing off against each other.

Minnewaska’s Megan Thorfinnson and Alia Randt play the Lakers’ Rachel Rankin and Avarie Uhde in the semifinals.

Also in the semifinals, Litchfield’s Molly Patten and Emma Knudsen play the Dragons’ Maya Wuotila and Emma Wuotila.

Thorfinnson and Randt beat Melrose’s Ramona Lurken-Tvrdik and Jenna Butkowski and Osakis’ Ava Drevlow and Maddi Bouldin in straight sets.

Rankin and Uhde defeated Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa’s Ellan Fischer and Grace Berndt and Osakis’ Bella Weisser and Jacklyn Dietrich in consecutive sets.

Patten and Knudsen won in three sets against New London-Spicer’s Heidi Taunton and Averie Turner in the quarterfinals after beating St. John’s Prep’s Sophie Grandy and Anna Kremer.

Maya Wuotila and Emma Wuotila cruised in the round of 16, defeating Sauk Centre’s Keely Klein and Abigail Anderson-Nyhus before securing a three set win against the Wildcats’ Addi Nelson and Jadyn Proeh in the quarterfinals.

Minnewaska’s Olivia Danielson and Litchfield’s Isla Dille are the two area singles players who remain unbeaten.

Danielson, who beat Melrose’s Addison Kemper and St. John’s Prep’s Ari Surma in straight sets, plays Osakis’ Leah Maddock in the semifinals.

Dille, who beat the Jaguars’ Hannah Hirman and NLS’ Emma Freidel without dropping a single set, matches up with Melrose’s Rachel Welle in the semifinals.

Section 6A play resumes Tuesday back at Rogers Tennis Club.
