Atalanta‘s Nicolò Zaniolo has been included in the Italy squad to replace Lorenzo Pellegrini.
The Roma midfielder received a straight red card in a 2-2 draw against Belgium on Thursday, so he won’t be available for the upcoming game against Israel on Monday.
Therefore, Italy boss Luciano Spalletti has called Zaniolo to boost his attacking options in the next Nations League game.
Italy replace suspended Pellegrini with Zaniolo
Zaniolo joined Atalanta on loan with an option to buy from Galatasaray last summer and has provided one assist in five appearances across all competitions with La Dea.
The Italian Federation announced that the ex-Aston Villa striker would join the Italy team in Coverciano today to begin preparation for Monday’s game in Udine.
Today’s training session at Coverciano will be behind closed doors.
Zaniolo made his senior Italy debut in March 2019 and has two goals in 19 appearances with the Azzurri.
A former Roma striker, Zaniolo has netted 13 times in 97 Serie A matches.
