CU men jump up four spots to tie for eighth at Music City Collegiate

Oct. 11—DICKSON — Cumberland’s men fired their best round of the Music City Collegiate, posting a 293, five-over as a team, to improve to tie for eighth place at at Greystone Golf Club on Tuesday.

The Cumberland “A” team improved five positions to finish in a four-way tie for eighth place with 889 total strokes. Bailey Rousseau had a great outing firing a three-under to help propel the Phoenix up the leaderboard.

OUAZ won the event by eight strokes shooting a six-under as a team in the final round. Ottawa Arizona finished three-under through 54 holes. Trevecca Nazarene finished in second place at 869 strokeswith Lindsey Wilson taking third place at 873 strokes.

Maddox Burton from Trevecca won the event individually at six-under par with Ty Cranford from Truett-McConnell taking second at four-under.

Rousseau had a great round firing a three-under 69. He had five birdies on the outing with two bogeys to finish in a tie for 15th place at 218 strokes.

Patrick Chesnut had the second-best finish for the Phoenix finishing with 222 strokes for a tie for 28th place. Chesnut carded a five-over 77 in his final round with two birdies and seven bogeys.

Garrett McMellon finished tied for 43rd place after shooting a 74 in his final round. McMellon had three birdies, three bogeys, and one double bogey in the round.

Tiger Houston fired five birdies in the last round with six bogeys to finish with the second-best score of the day for Cumberland at one-over. Houston finished with 230 strokes to tie for 61st place.

Kalle Marttinen shot an 80 in his final round. He picked up 13 pars on the day, but had two bogeys and three doubles to shoot eight-over. He finished tied for 83rd at 235 strokes.

Joel Berry led the “B” team shooting a 76 in the last round to tie for 43rd. Justin Reed shot an 82 to total 229 strokes and finish tied for 57th place.

Colin Smith and Josh Taylor continued to shoot the same exact score in the final round with both carding a five-over 77 to finish tied for 69th place. Andrew Lena finished with an 82 to tie with Garrett Maria for 93rd. Maria posted a 79 in his round. Harry Caygill shot an 82 to finish tied for 98th place.

Cumberland will be back in action Oc. 14-15 at the Match Play at Gibson Bay event in Richmond, Ky.
