Port Tampa Bay resumes fuel distribution, re-opens shipping channels after Milton

Date:

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Days after Hurricane Milton made land and left behind widespread damage, Port Tampa Bay has resumed distribution of fuel and re-opened shipping channels.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Port Heavy Weather Advisory Group coordinated to set the port condition to normal and re-open the port, however, travel will be restricted to daylight hours and one-way traffic.

Fuel tankers leave Port Tampa Bay to supply gas stations in hurricane-hit zones

Commercial traffic is being queued for return, with fuel tankers, cruise ships and vessels carrying perishables first in line.

According to Port Tampa Bay, Hurricane Milton caused fuel terminals to lose power, preventing community distribution. Once power was restored, each terminal went through necessary safety tests. Fuel supply remains adequate with the expectation that all terminals will be functional by the end of the day Saturday.

We want to express our sincere appreciation to those who helped our port prepare and recover from the impact of the storm. The port’s Operations, Security, Facilities and Engineering staff, maritime community, the U.S. Coast Guard, and our local law enforcement and emergency response agencies were critical to our ability to minimize the effects of the storm and help our port to return to operations as soon as safely possible.  Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was impacted by Hurricane Milton.

Cruise liner schedules for Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Margaritaville at Sea will be affected and passengers should contact their respective service lines for more details.
