National champs hit the hardwood tonight for charity exhibition

Date:

UNCASVILLE, CT (WFSB) – The Huskies head back to the hardwood on Monday night.

The University of Connecticut men’s basketball team was scheduled to take on coach Dan Hurley’s old team, Rhode Island, in an exhibition game.

The event was slated as an Inaugural Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement game. Proceeds benefit the Coaches vs. Cancer charity.

Though the game won’t count, the Huskies and the Rams have history.

UConn holds a 77-68 lead since the teams started playing each other during the 1907-07 season. The last time they played was in 2000.

Hurley coached the Rams for six seasons before he took the job in Storrs.

“We are a work in progress right now and I think it’s exciting to get an opportunity to go out and play against somebody else,” Hurley told Channel 3.

Monday night’s game is set for 6 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville.
