Washington Commanders defensive tackle Jonathan Allen has suffered a season-ending pectoral tear that will require surgery.

Head coach Dan Quinn announced the injury on Monday while speaking with reporters.

“We’re really bummed for him,” Quinn said, per the Washington Post. … “We’ll certainly miss him this season, and he’ll likely get surgery in the days ahead.”

Allen suffered the injury in Sunday’s 30-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

An eight-year NFL veteran, Allen has played his entire career with the Commanders since Washington selected him with a first-round draft pick out of Alabama in 2017. He’s been a standout and a steady presence on Washington’s defensive line since joining the league. He’s played in at least 15 games in each of the last six seasons and made the Pro Bowl after the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

The injury marks a significant blow for a Commanders team that’s having its best season in years thanks in large part to the play of standout rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. Washington is 4-2 after Sunday’s loss and alone at the top of the NFC East standings.

Allen has started all six of Washington’s games this season, tallying 15 tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss and six quarterback hits. He’s recorded at least 10 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and 17 quarterback hits in each of the last three seasons.
