Currently, the Oilers captain has 300 multi-point games under his belt, tied with Mark Messier for the second-most in the team’s history.

The big-time record holder is Wayne Gretzky, who had 472 multi-point games in 696 games with the franchise. Messier played 851 games with the club, while McDavid is at 648 and counting.

Surprisingly, the Oilers captain hasn’t registered a multi-point game yet this season. He recorded a single assist in each game against the Calgary Flames and Chicago Blackhawks this weekend.

Two points in three games is not a sustainable pace for the phenom.

Everyone around the league knows that he is capable of so much more. Everyone in the Oilers dressing room knows he can produce more.

As with most things about McDavid, it’s a matter of when, not if.

McDavid recorded 100 assists last season, 64 goals, and 153 points the season before. Putting up points is not a foreign concept for him.

But just like the rest of the team, McDavid is finding his footing for this season. Each year is a new beast, and McDavid and company are trying to find a way to tame it.
