Celtic are monitoring Kieran Tierney’s situation, with Arsenal reportedly informing the player he can leave in January.

Alex Crook reports for talkSPORT that Kieran Tierney has been told he can leave Arsenal in January, and Celtic are understood to be monitoring his situation.

Brendan Rodgers is an admirer of Tierney from his first spell with Celtic, and it appears he’s looking to bring the Arsenal defender back.

Tierney is closing in on a return from injury after a hamstring setback over the summer, but he has Riccardo Calafiori, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jurrien Timber, and Jakub Kiwior to compete with at left-back when everyone is fit.

Youth prospect Myles Lewis-Skelly has also played the position this season, so Mikel Arteta isn’t lacking for options.

Charles Watts recently reported that Arsenal had planned to sell or loan Tierney in the summer, and it likely would have happened if not for his injury at the Euros.

Watts wrote that Tierney isn’t in Arteta’s plans, and he accepts that fact. He’ll now hope to get a move in January, most likely on loan, so he can get some minutes ahead of a summer transfer.

It’s unclear whether Celtic would be interested in a loan or a permanent deal in January, and that will likely only be clarified once they open talks with Arsenal.

In a sign that there are no ill feelings between Tierney and Arsenal or Arteta, the player has recently been spotted supporting the team at the Emirates Stadium.

The left-back sat alongside Tomiyasu and Tommy Setford behind the dugouts for Arsenal’s match against Leicester City, and he was there again for the Southampton game.

Tierney may not be able to help Arsenal on the pitch right now, but he’s evidently sticking with the squad behind the scenes.
