Gautam Gambhir feels sorry for Pakistan cricket’s current state: Aaqib Javed

Date:

“ICC mei log haste hain [people in the ICC laugh about it],” Gambhir told Javed in an interaction

At the moment, Pakistan cricket is at perhaps one of their lowest points. They failed to make it to the semis in the ODI World Cup, failed to qualify for the Super 8s in the T20 World Cup, lost a home Test series against Bangladesh, and in the first Test against England at home, they lost by an innings despite putting up 556 on the board.

Recently appointed selector of the Pakistan side, Aaqib Javed, recalls an interaction with India head coach Gautam Gambhir in Sri Lanka, during which the latter expressed his sadness for the state Pakistan cricket is in at the moment.

Gautam Gambhir ne mujhe kaha ke ‘Aaqib bhai, yeh Pakistan cricket ko kya ho gaya hai? Itna talent hai, hum bhi dekhte hain, sab kuch hai, inhone kiya kya hai?’ [Gambhir asked me what has happened to Pakistan cricket despite so much talent and everything, what have they done?]” said Aaqib in a podcast.

Gambhir also said Gambhir mentioned that Pakistan cricket’s downfall had taken the sheen out of the Indo-Pak encounters.

“He [Gambhir] also feels sorry about it because there are a few [top-level] teams, and the Pakistan-India matches provide the biggest thrill. So if your team [Pakistan] falls like that, then one of the game’s biggest matches loses its charm,” he said.

“ICC mei log haste hain [people in the ICC laugh about it],” he concluded.

Pakistan redeemed themselves to a certain extent as they managed to end their winless streak in Tests and win the second Multan Test by 152 runs on October 18 (Friday).
