Michigan basketball lands first 2025 commitment from four-star recruit Winters Grady

Date:

Michigan basketball and coach Dusty May got off to a strong start with its 2025 recruiting class by landing a top-100 prospect.

Winters Grady, a four-star small forward who plays for California’s Prolific Prep, announced his commitment to the Wolverines in a social media post on Friday.

He chose the Wolverines over other programs like Oklahoma, Oregon, Colorado, Iowa and New Mexico, all places he took official visits to this fall. But ultimately Michigan — where he visited at the end of August — won out.

“I think the program is 100% headed in the right direction with Coach May taking over,” Grady told On3. “He’s super precise and knows exactly what he wants in his players. The facilities were also really nice and a lot of them were still being renovated.”

Grady added that Michigan plans to use him at the shooting guard and small-forward spots, where he can “just be the scorer that I am.”

“They don’t want to have me change my game to be there and are going to let me be me,” Grady told On3.

Grady (6-foot-5, 185 pounds) is ranked the No. 83 overall recruit in the 2025 class, per the 247Sports composite. He’s also rated the No. 8 prospect in California and No. 15 at his position nationally.

Grady’s pledge is the third May has landed since taking over as Michigan’s head coach in March, following the late additions he made to the 2024 class with guards L.J. Cason and Justin Pippen.

“We like where we are (recruiting-wise). We’re pleased,” May said Friday during Michigan’s media day. “We have a staff that’s very connected and they work well together. You factor in how aggressive our players are in recruiting and wanting good players to join this program. It’s been fun to be in the recruiting foxhole with this group.”
